To force a Hyacinth, simply means to grow it indoors. They can be grown on a specially shaped glass on just water, or grown in pots with soil. It is not difficult, but it does require a little patience. One will be rewarded with color and fragrance when little else is in bloom. The Hyacinths for this purpose are very large to ensure success. Hyacinths bulbs will require a period of cooling before they will bloom. By using our prepared bulbs you speed up this process. They have been given a special treatment by us to simplify and shorten the steps you have to take to force them into bloom. For more tips on indoor growing/forcing, please Google 'Forcing hyacinths indoors'. Part sun, Delft Blue, perennial. Van Zyverden, fragrant, perennial, USDA Hardiness Zones 4-9, 2 lbs

  • Hyacinths bulbs will require an additional period of cooling once potted before they will bloom. By using our prepared bulbs you speed up this process. These directions refer to growing Hyacinths in soil in pots. First, find an appropriate pot with drainage ( 3 bulbs to a 6" pot or 5 bulbs to an 8" pot), then add moist soil until the pot is about 75% full. Then place the Hyacinth bulbs, pointed side up, basel plate down on the soil. It is ok for them to touch each other. Actually the more closely planted the more impressive the final result will be. Cover the planted bulbs with remaining soil, leaving just the very tips exposed. Tighten soil around bulbs the best you can. Place the entire pot in a closed poly bag in the refrigerator ( you are putting them though a fake winter). Leave them there for about 3 months during which time you will see visible growth. Soil should stay moist so add a little water if they need it. You will see shoots appear as they grow. Remove from refrigerator and poly bag and place in a cool window to force them into bloom. Much has been written about forcing hyacinths which is an art and can be read about on the Internet.
