June. A thatched cottage. A woman among flowers so abundant they crowd the path. Fred Hines painted England at its most generous.
This is an original vintage chromolithograph calendar page — a watercolor by British artist Fred Hines (1860–1930), believed completed in 1906 and titled "Thatched Cottage Garden in Full Bloom with Figure," artist-signed lower right, printed "June" in decorative lettering at the base. Circa 1930s or earlier. One available. Unframed.
Fred Hines was a British watercolorist and illustrator working in the late Victorian and Edwardian tradition, celebrated for his luminous scenes of cottage gardens, country paths, and women at ease in the natural world. This watercolor — a thatched-roof cottage nearly hidden by climbing flowers, a dirt path lined with blooms in full summer color, a woman tending to it all with quiet attention — is among the most beautiful expressions of his work. The artist's signature is clearly visible lower right. An original calendar page, not a reproduction.
Edge wear consistent with age; once matted and framed, completely invisible. Framing is strongly recommended to preserve it. The pair with April (U2103) makes a beautiful seasonal display.
A wonderful piece for a Fred Hines collector, a cottagecore or English country interior, a garden lover, or anyone who appreciates the quiet perfection of Edwardian watercolor at its most generous.
